Uckermark, Brandenburg, Germany

A friend of a dear friend owns this perfect little bed-and-breakfast located just two car hours away from the busy city life of the German capital. When said friend, who happens to be a professional chef, first told me about the place, I fell in love with his sheer description alone. It literally is a dream cottage come true.

My friend and I decided to collaborate on a little project, spending three full days cooking seasonal, freshly harvested produce from their very own vegetable garden, alongside one chicken that also lived and died on the farm.

Having a steaming hot coffee in the morning sun just after sunrise, wearing a pullover, loose pants and on my feet nothing but Birkenstocks has never felt as good as here, I’m telling you. My favorite time of the year is the very beginning of autumn when you can feel the weather change ever so slightly, the wind picking up a notch, and the trees slowly evolving in colors. I can only imagine how any other season in this place must feel, and it just blows my mind that it’s someone else’s every day. I felt utterly grateful at the moment and returned to the stove in order to finish the apple and whiskey-caramel tarte that we had made for all the guests and hosts of the house to share.
